eEye Digital Security Secures $5 Million in First Round Funding from private investors

(ALISO VIEJO, CA) June 23rd, 2000 — eEye Digital Security, the network security division of eCompany (www.ecompany.net), a leading privately held software application developer, announces the securing of $5 million in first-round financing from private investors. European private equity firm Fay, Richwhite & Cie led the first round, and was joined by a number of European and US investors.

eCompany and eEye will use first-round funds to finance the marketing of Retina®, a revolutionary network vulnerability scanner with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence features. Funds will also be used to finalize the release of eEye’s second product, Iris™, a network traffic analyzer ingeniously designed to help IT personnel proactively monitor their organizations network.

In making the announcement, eCompany Founder, and Chief Technology Officer, Firas Bushnaq, remarked, "We’re extremely pleased with our first round of financing. The investors share our future vision of network security and they recognized the superiority of our products. It has been a long journey to bring Retina and Iris to life and we are very excited about the opportunity to take these products to the market."

Retina is the first security software application with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence. Its groundbreaking feature is CHAM (Common Hacking Attack Methods), which allows Retina to adopt the mindset of a hacker finding potential holes in network software. Thus, while all of the other security scanners on the market are primarily looking for known vulnerabilities, Retina looks for known and unknown vulnerabilities, giving users the most comprehensive network security analysis possible.

Retina also includes an auto-update feature, which provides continuous update of its modules, allowing users to keep pace with the latest security vulnerabilities.

eCompany's Chief Hacking Officer, Marc Maiffret, described Retina as a virtual 24 hours, seven days a week network security guard. "Retina is the first network security software system that thinks like a hacker and works like an around-the-clock human network security analyst," explained Maiffret. "Unlike other network vulnerability scanning tools on the market today, Retina has real-time security auditing and testing capabilities. The system also includes built-in artificial intelligence features designed to handle 'what if' and 'in case of' scenarios."
